Distemper paint or emulsion paint - which one is better for your walls?

Do you want to revamp your home's color scheme? With so many paint options, you might be feeling a little baffled. Well, choosing paint for your home decor is not limited to hues and patterns.

It is crucial to consider the pros and cons of each paint available before choosing the right product for your home. We tend to be wrongly informed about the type of paint that fulfills our requirements and refine the color you select. When it comes to painting walls, distemper and emulsion are the most popular options.

Tips for choosing the right paint

  • Choose the shade according to your furniture.

  • Say no to bright and saturated colors.

  • Long-term planning is required.

You can check out more tips for choosing the right paint according to your needs from here.

Distemper Paint

Paints made of lime, chalk, and pigments are known as distemper paints. A resin is formulated to bind the lime, chalk, and pigments together. We can directly apply it to the cement surface without coating or resurfacing; therefore, they are commonly known as cement paints. Distemper paint is a water-based paint that is the cheapest in the Indian market. It was traditionally used to whitewash the walls. You can check how to apply distemper paint right here.

Emulsion Paint

SB-Latex and Acrylic resin in an emulsified state act as a binding material or adhesive on the base of emulsion paint. Any paint necessitates the use of epoxy that adheres to the surface. After drying, the acrylic resin in this paint adheres to the surface and holds the other elements in place. A paint has Colorants that give it shade and UV protection, Liquids that absorb some of the pigmentations or increase the flow of the paint, and different Emulsifiers like an anti skinning agent, anti-settling, and, surface-active agents.

Emulsion paints are of higher grade and create a smooth wall surface. Distemper paint is less costly. It has a firm and shiny appearance. The process of using emulsion paint can be seen here.
